Workbags are made from
the toughest canvas, suede
and webbing available
- all natural materials.
These materials were chosen
to go ‘the long
haul’, and also
for the character they
take on as the bag is
used. The following is
a brief description of
the materials and how
to take care of them.
THE CANVAS Our canvas
is 18oz,100% vat-dyed
cotton. This means the
fabric was dipped in a
vat of dye
after it was woven instead
of being woven out of
dyed thread. Just like
your favorite pair of
real denim
jeans, this gives the
garment (or bag) an interesting
character as the fabric
is worn, as it actually
has a lighter ‘core’
which will show on the
seams and other high-wear
areas. We love this character
and hope you will
too. This wear shows mostly
on the black canvas, so
if you think this may
be a problem for you,
we suggest you pick natural,
tan or olive-drab as a
base color for your bag
(olive-drab does show
wear slightly).
To clean the
canvas:
wipe off with a sponge
dipped in warm water only,
or for more stubborn stains,
use a
bath of water with a few
drops of Woolite: 1/2
tsp. of Woolite to 2 cups
of water. Air dry.
THE SUEDE / LEATHER both
are sourced from USA tanneries
who belong to The Leather
Working Group
which assures environment
conscious business practices.
Read about it at www.blcleathertech.com.
To clean the
suede:
Suede picks up dirt
and grease easily, and
unlike top-grain leather,
can’t easily be
wiped off. The suede we
use has been treated in
the tanning process with
Scotchguard Leather Protector
to
provide water, oil and
stain resistance. Do not
use silicone treatments
on it. Brush off excess
dirt with a
stiff bristle brush. If
heavily soiled, wash with
a bath of warm water and
Woolite and air dry: dilute
1/2 tsp.
of Woolite in two cups
of warm water and dip
a small sponge into the
mixture, squeeze it out
and gently
stroke the suede to remove
the dirt. Do not ‘scrub’
the suede, but make several
passes in different directions.
Air dry, then gently use
a bristle brush or a felt
hat sponge to restore
the nap.The suede won’t
be as ‘nappy’
as when its new, so we
suggest doing one small
area to see if you like
a slightly flattened look.
If the stain is oil-based
(as in, you dumped your
entire plate of pasta
olio on it!), after carefully
lifting off the oily material,
sprinkle cornstarch on
the stained area and let
it stand overnight. Blow
off the excess cornstarch
and then brush the remaining
material away with a bristle
brush or felt hat sponge.
To clean the
leather:
for oil and grease: sprinkle
with cornstarch or Fullers
Earth, let set and shake
off. For
all other, goopier materials,
wipe off gently with a
sponge dipped in water,
air dry.
THE STRAPS These are 100%
cotton and extremely tough
- a bit stiff at first,
they loosen up with wear.
To clean the straps: We
have designed them to
snap off so you can wash
them - just throw them
in the
washing machine (cold)
and lay flat to dry -
they come out great. This
snap-off design enables
you to swap
out your straps for another
color or length.
THE LININGS We use domestic
organic cotton for the
linings and inside fabric
pockets.To clean the inside,
take everything out of
your bag, open all the
zippers, and shake upside
down,...vigorously!
Have a great time with
your bag! sherry
